As we expand our efforts to support individuals with chronic illness or disabilities, we seek a compassionate, skilled, and NBHWC board-certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBHWC) to join our team.
Job Overview:
The NBHWC board-certified Health and Wellness Coach will work closely with individuals struggling with mental illness to provide personalized coaching, support, and guidance on their mental health and wellness journeys. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with mental health and may have a chronic illness and will bring a holistic, client-centered approach to health and wellness coaching. You will be responsible for conducting one-on-one coaching sessions, helping clients set and achieve health goals, and working collaboratively with the care team to ensure optimal outcomes for individuals with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Individualized Coaching: Provide one-on-one health and wellness coaching to individuals with disabilities, focusing on mental health management, lifestyle improvement, and overall well-being.
- Holistic Approach: Collaborate with clients to develop personalized wellness plans that address their physical, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Goal Setting and Support: Assist clients in setting realistic, achievable health goals. Provide ongoing support and encouragement, addressing barriers that may arise along the way.
- Empathy and Advocacy: Advocate for individuals with disabilities and offer tailored support that empowers them to overcome challenges. Demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to their unique needs, challenges, and experiences.
- Collaboration with Healthcare Providers: Work alongside healthcare providers, therapists, and other members of the care team to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care for each client.
- Motivation and Accountability: Employ motivational interviewing techniques and other strategies to engage clients and maintain their motivation toward achieving their goals. Hold clients accountable in a compassionate and empowering manner.
- Monitor Progress: Regularly assess client progress and adjust coaching plans to reflect changes in the client’s health, circumstances, or goals.
- Education and Resources: Provide clients with educational materials and resources, and empower them to make informed decisions about their health and wellness.
- Documenting and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of client sessions, progress, and outcomes, in compliance with confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines.
- Continuous Learning: Stay up to date on the latest health and wellness trends, certifications, and best practices in working with individuals with disabilities.
- Self-Directed: Be able to work independently and to complete tasks without constant supervision. Be able to identify work needing completion.
Required Qualifications:
- Certification: National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) certification is required.
- Experience: 3-5 years of professional work experience. Experience working with individuals with mental health challenges or in a clinical setting with a focus on working with individuals with mental health is highly desirable.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities, especially those related to mental health.
- Expertise in coaching techniques such as motivational interviewing, goal setting, and behavioral change.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients.
- Ability to adapt coaching methods to suit the individual needs of clients.
- Empathy and Compassion: Demonstrated ability to provide coaching with empathy and sensitivity to clients’ emotional and physical needs.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, therapists, and other coaches.
- Technology Proficiency: Comfortable using digital coaching platforms, video conferencing tools, and wellness tracking systems.
- Cultural Competency: Ability to work with diverse populations and respect individual backgrounds, experiences, and challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Mental Illness: Experience in coaching individuals with chronic illness is a plus.
- Education: A degree in a related healthcare or education field (e.g., psychology, social work, nursing, healthcare, education, physical or occupational therapy, dietetics, or veterinarians) is a plus.
- Specialized Training: Additional certifications or training in mental health coaching, working with people with chronic illness, or health coaching are a bonus.
- Health Coaching Experience– Experience with logged coaching hours, we will ask for this information and ask you to include your log.
- Toivoa is currently hiring NBHWC board-certified coaches. The salary range is based on experience and education, from $25 for an Associate Degree with 3-5 years of work experience to $40+ per hour for a master’s Degree with 5-7 years of experience, with opportunities for growth in a high-growth company.
